Message to the Revolution Team;
Starting the tournament with a 3-0 loss in the first game, even though we clearly outplayed the LPDA team and then battling the Framingham Strikers team to a 2-2 tie. We had dug ourselves into a hole.
Coach Martin challenged you to come back strong on Sunday as we needed 2 wins to make it into the playoffs on Monday. You all answered the bell. Playing without Kyle do to injury and with Will not feeling 100%, you showed real grit in posting a 2-0 victory over the Newton Hotspurs team. You followed that with another shutout victory over the previously unbeaten Chelmsford team, 1-0. The 2 shutout victories were enough to put us as the #2 seed in the playoffs on Monday.
Monday playoffs was our revenge day. First up was the Strikers that had knocked us out of the playoffs last year. Our total TEAM effort frustrated them all day. Even with their poor display of Sportsmanship throughout the game, you kept your composure and just played the game. It paid off with a 3-1 victory. Next up was the LPDA team that had handed us our only loss in the tournament. This was a well played game on both sides. The big momentum changer was the great save Mike made on the Penalty kick for LPDA. After that save we really applied the pressure. The winning goal was unbelievable, some say it was luck, but I think it was because Randy never quit on the play. After chipping the ball slowly past the goalie and tripping over him, he got back up as fast as he could. When he stood up, the defenseman's clear struck him in the head and went into the net. Had he not hustled to his feet, the ball would have been cleared and the game would still be tied, 1-1. Instead we held on for the 2-1 victory and the Championship!!!
Way to go boys, we truly won with a complete TEAM effort all around!!
